Meet Crystal! (aka @mizz.mok)
How did you first get into blogging?
I was first exposed to the blogger world four years ago. I was single back then and really wanted to find a hobby to do on my spare time. Interestingly, my blog Mokolate led me to the love of my life! Through my blog, I met my guy (who is now my husband) and now Mokolate became our hobby together and we get to know each other’s funny side even more!
Tell us a bit about your day-to-day life?
A lot of people think I do blogging and Instagram as my full time job, but in reality my real job is working in a pharmacy! After work, I like to relax, do some blogging while watching TV and eating snacks. Sometimes, I like to bake or cook to surprise my love ones. I especially enjoying baking and it is amazing to stare at my mixer, seeing all the ingredients spinning and eventually everything blended together! I find that amazing!
If you had to live off of one type of cuisine (i.e. Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean) for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Japanese! No doubt with that. I love the simplicity and freshness of Japanese food and yet it can turn into so many different dishes. From Sushi, Tempura, Ramen, Japanese BBQ (Yakiniku)… I personally like food with their original taste, and not being marinated too much.
What’s your favourite project/collaboration you’ve done to date?
I must say I am really honored to be able to work with many awesome brands since I became a blogger. One that I love the most and still collaborating with is @thisboxispink. They are a monthly subscription box with a good cause to raise the awareness of girl empowerment. Every month they surprise me with tons of goodies! Also, they had campaigns to raise awareness for Sick Kids Foundation and Anti-Bully Program in School. Definitely love my girls @thisboxispink!
3 items you must have in your purse/bag with you?
The most important item in my purse would be my phone, lipsticks and hand cream. I cannot leave my home without any of these!
What’s your favourite part about the social media community?
My favourite part about social media is that it allows me to meet a lot of new people and enhance my photography and photo editing skills. Through looking at other’s photography, it’s like looking at their daily life which in turns can bring me and my friends closer together with common interest.
Favourite meal you’ve had outside of Canada?
Omakase at Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. The fish market there is amazing and all seafood are so fresh! I especially enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar and watched the sushi master prepping all the delicious sushi and sashimi in front of our eyes!
Can you walk us through your process of taking an Insta photo? (i.e. when a dish comes at a restaurant, what are your steps before you eat)
I like to eat my food when they are still steaming hot, so I try to do all my photo shots quick. I would try to do top down shots of the food, side way, and some shots with a bokeh style background if possible. Then, bon appetite!
Top 3 favourite restaurants in Toronto?
Being a Japanese food lover, my top pick would be Santouka Ramen as they have the best authentic ramen in Toronto. Jamie’s Oliver is my number one go to Italian restaurant with a family style dish and spacious sitting at the Yorkdale location. To fulfill my sweet craving, Nugateau Patisserie has the most creative and wonderful eclairs in the world and it is definitely something that I can eat everyday
