With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we have put together a list of locally made gifts and activities that are sure to knock her socks off.

1. Make meal times easy, breezy, … beautiful?

A post shared by Prepd (@eatprepd) on

Let’s face it: coming up with meal ideas day in and day out can be tiresome on the best of days. So send a family some much-needed reprieve using Prepd, which takes the fuss out of meal planning and sends all the fresh ingredients straight to the door. Bonus: all of the meals can be made in less than 30 minutes and come with a full calorie & nutrition breakdown.

2. Enter the wonderful world of pottery

If your mom has artistic leanings or owns a huge hoard of artisanal pottery, consider gifting her a wheel throwing course at The Shop. She’ll learn the ins and outs of working a wet lump of clay into a functional bowl, cup, or another vessel, and it won’t be long before you’re drinking out of a mug that she’s made!

3. Add to her #jungalow

While potted succulents in twee planters have been trending on Instagram for the past couple of years, moms everywhere have been busy cultivating their own #jungalows for eons (but they probably just call them plants). Add to your mom’s collection with a sweet plant babe or two from local plant shop Dynasty on Queen West.

4. Take a calculated risk together and walk on the edge

A post shared by CN Tower (@cntower) on

There’s nothing quite like bonding over a mutual fear of heights. While you may not be ready to go skydiving any time soon, doing the edge walk around the CN Tower is a good first step in facing this fear with mummy dearest. #YOLO, amiright?

5. A custom painting of her favourite child furbaby

Did your mom clear out your room immediately after you moved out, only to make it into a playroom for the family dog/cat/parakeet? Well push that jealousy aside, give your mom a gift that will pluck at her heartstrings: a custom pet portrait of her one and only.

6. Get roasted at a barista class

Apparently 63% of Canadians over 18 drink coffee, so chances are your mom imbibes in a hot cuppa every now and then. Treat her to a behind-the-scenes experience for how her go-to beverage is made and step up her coffee game!

7. Host a low-key tea party for her

Two cups of brewed Sloane loose leaf tea with a teapot

If your mom’s one of the 37% who doesn’t drink coffee, maybe a heartfelt tea party hosted at home would be more her speed. Take a quick perusal through our selection of Sloane loose-leaf tea for some tasty options, and put together a low-key gathering with some of her favourite nibbles & people.

8. Stick to the tried and true

A post shared by Mejuri (@mejuri) on

Some may find the idea of gifting jewelry cliché but we’re true believers of the adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” (at least in this instance). Besides, there are plenty of beautiful jewelry made right here in Toronto, including these delightful earrings from Mejuri – who wouldn’t love a pair?

9. Give her a golden ticket to the secret world of chocolate

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but whoever said that clearly has never had good chocolate (or ice cream for that matter). Give your mom a comprehensive education in chocolate with a class at Succulent Chocolates, Chocolate Tales or Purdys Chocolatier. It may just awaken her inner Caroline Clairmont and become a gift that keeps on giving 🙂
