While we love to discuss desserts and share recipes, we would be remiss not to talk about the core of what makes Demetres tick every single day, and that is our people. Our hard working artisans are friendly and attentive, and today we want to shine a light on two of them in our new blog feature, the People of Demetres.
Michelle is one of our lovely servers, and has generously agreed to sit down with us so that we can pick her brain about a few things.
Hi Michelle! What do you get up to when you’re not here at the restaurant?
Go to the gym. I go maybe five days a week. To be honest, I just recently started back up at the gym, but I use to train in Taekwondo. I’ll also try to spend as much time as I can with my cousins and friends – we’re always looking to do something new.
Are you also attending school right now?
I’m actually taking a year off to save up some money. But I plan on going back to continue studying dental hygiene. The thought of working in dentistry has always been a dream for me since grade 5. No one in my family is involved in this field, so I would be the first. When I told them this is what I’m interested in, they’re like “Go for it, we’re always going to support you in every way.”
If you had to pick, what would be your top ice cream flavour?
Cotton candy all day. I usually go to Baskin Robbins or Dutch Dreams.
What’s the one thing that you look forward to accomplishing one day?
Definitely buy my own house. Get myself my own condo, maybe a car.
Next up is Priya:
Always ready with a smile, Priya has taken on numerous roles, ranging from barista to hostess, and now she has joined our team of servers. Read on to find out a little more about her 🙂
Hi Priya, where can we usually find you on your days off?
I’m usually always at school, working. When I’m at home, I like to to cook and try new things and experiment with that, that’s my hobby. I like anything with pasta.
What are your plans once you’re done with school?
I want to travel. I want to go on a backpacking trip, but no boats. Can’t do that because I’ll get too seasick. And then I want to be a social worker.
What’s the one thing that you would really like to pursue in life?
That’s kind of hard to answer… I guess I’ve always wanted to travel to less fortunate countries and work with organisations like UNICEF to give aid, and become someone who’s known for doing these types of things.
And finally, what’s your ultimate ice cream flavour right now?
Our strawberry ice cream!
