There’s a saying that there are only two seasons here in Toronto: winter & construction season.
While that’s a slight exaggeration, there’s no denying the fact that winter is coming. It always seems to creep up on us all at once: one minute you’re sitting out on a nice patio somewhere sipping iced tea, and the next you’re forced to bundle up in sweaters and scarves just to set foot outside. Here at Demetres HQ, we’re holding on to the last remnants of warm weather with these lush floral place settings before we’re confronted with the cold hard truth. Read on to see how we did it, and make sure to tag us @demetres on Instagram to show us your handiwork if you try this yourself 🙂
What you’ll need:
- Fresh flowers & preserved moss
- Small containers to hold said flowers (we used 4″ terra cotta planters, coloured glassware & silver candleholders)
- Kraft paper for labels
- Ribbon and wooden skewers
- Clear, smooth glassware
- Assorted small plates
We came up with three arrangements with varying price levels and looks. Each of these would work for your next dinner gathering or as wedding centrepieces (if scaled up in size) depending on the feel you’re going for.
Place Setting A:
For this arrangement, we used an assortment of coloured glassware and layered in some preserved moss and a few flower buds to add some colour. We also used kraft labels for our guests’ names, which can be purchased pre-cut, or cut out of kraft card stock by hand. Lastly, we placed these arrangements on small plates and covered them with clear glassware.
Cost per setting: $8 – 10
Place Setting B:
It’s all about the flowers for this arrangement. We switched things up a bit and used a few smokey glass candle holders and added in some seasonal blooms. We treated the candle holder as small vases, and clipped the flower stems to fit. Lastly, we added in a little water to help preserve the blooms.
Cost per setting: $7 – 8
Place Setting C:
We love this last arrangement because it can be used as place settings as well as party favours. We clipped the flowers and placed them in small terra cotta pots. Next we attached name tags with card stock by securing them with short wooden skewers. At the end of the night, guests can be invited to take their personalized flower pots home as a keepsake of the event.
Cost per setting: $3 – 5
We hope this post will inspire you for your next gathering, and remember to check back weekly for new craft ideas, recipes or behind-the-scenes peeks at Demetres HQ.
