Have you ever wondered about who takes all the photos on our site, who comes up with our dessert concepts, or who you’re corresponding with on social media? Well wonder no more! Today we’re going behind the scenes at Demetres HQ and reintroducing our team. Read on to find out who we are and what makes us tick.

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

While I did say cookies and creme previously, I am genuinely addicted to our vegan coconut sorbetto with the maple coconut caramel sauce (also vegan). SOOOOO. GOOOOOOD.  Add some nuts and cookie and it replaces all my meals. 🙂

If you were going to be stuck on a deserted island for a month with one other person, who would you choose?

Uh Bear Grylls of course! While I draw the line at eating eyeballs, I actually think it would be so much fun! (*famous last words before realizing that there are probably giant spiders on this island as well)

Out of all the places that you’ve visited before, where would you go back to and why?

Bondi beach in Australia – amazing waves, cute little town, not super busy, but still close enough to downtown Sydney. Had some amazing memories living there while on a working holiday, and would love to go back to see how it’s changed.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were a little kid?

Apparently I said I wanted to be an airplane…I actually don’t think I asked my mom what age I was when i said this for fear of the answer lol. But who wouldn’t want to be an airplane?!

Name one skill you would really like to learn/master.

I’ve been working on my handstand press-ups for what seems to be ages now, with the last attempt resulting in breaking a picture frame lol. I also wish I could master surfing by learning it Matrix-style. I’ve had multiple attempts and lessons that have taught me that it’s not an inherent skill for me. I also have tiny feet which doesn’t help, I’m like a walking bowling pin.

Tea or coffee?

Flat white with almond milk is my go to

What’s your favourite thing about living in Toronto?

Multiculturalism and incredible food!

What do you like to do on your days off?

Get into nature somehow, somewhere.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were a little kid?

A writer then a fashion designer and then a photographer in that order. I had a plan clearly.

Name one skill you would really like to learn/master.

Patience while driving. I say “namaste” instead because it makes me laugh usually.

Tea or coffee?

Tea forever and always.

What’s your favourite spot in the city to grab some food with friends?

I find myself gravitating towards Kensington market fairly often just because there’s a nice variety, and I love the street market vibes. I’ve always had a soft spot for Jumbo Empanadas, and no meal is complete without a couple of churros from Pancho’s Bakery.

What do you like to do on your days off?

I like to chill out in my home studio, or visit a local pottery studio and get my hands in some goopy clay. I’ll also make time to see family and friends and do a little bit of cooking and cleaning – the usual domestic shtick.

Out of all the places that you’ve visited before, where would you go back to and why?

I can’t help but fall in love with every place I visit. That being said, I would love to take a month-long art class down in Mexico (San Miguel de Allende specifically), or go back to Japan to take on the Shimanami Kaido bike trail again (I was bested twice, so hopefully third time’s the charm).

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

There are so many cool flavours in Toronto right now, and I’m just a big fan of ice cream in general so this is a tough one. But I’m really feeling ube recently, and I’ll always have room for a scoop of grape nut.
